Dear Neighbors,
The volunteers of the Edgemont Incorporation Committee (EIC) have had a busy summer reaching out to thousands of residents through in-person home meetings, forums, surveys, door-to-door canvassing, casual conversations, and social media. We have been meeting with village mayors, managers, treasurers, and police chiefs; conferring with government consultants, municipal finance experts, and potential service providers; and seeking advice from attorneys who specialize in municipal and land-use law.
We have retained Arent Fox, LLP, a well-respected New York City law firm with a specialized practice in municipal finance and real estate law, to counsel our community on legal matters related to incorporation.
We also have engaged the Municipal Consulting Group of Zions Public Finance to create a study on the feasibility of Edgemont’s becoming a village. Zions has specialized expertise in potential municipal incorporations, as well as broad expertise in all areas of municipal finance and development.
We will continue researching key financial and legal issues with our experts, and we will post all findings on our website.
We are in the process of scheduling a number of open community-wide conversations. The community’s participation and engagement in this process is critical, and we look forward to hearing your feedback. Make sure to sign up for email updates to receive more information.
Meanwhile, our ongoing, in-home informational gatherings provide an opportunity to speak to us in a quieter, more personal setting. Please let us know if you would like to attend or host an informational gathering.
We all share concerns about the Town’s recent revaluation, our property taxes, our schools, and our property values. And we all care deeply about our community and its future. This passionate spirit of community involvement is ultimately what will lead our residents to the right result for all of us.
Our goal is to provide the residents of Edgemont the best information possible to ensure that we make a reasoned, informed decision about becoming a village.
